What are the Ten Gods in Bazi?
The Ten Gods are relationship categories between the Day Master and the other stems in a Four Pillars chart. The word “god” is a conventional translation, not a claim that a person has ten supernatural beings. A category is defined by the five-element relationship and yin–yang polarity.
Start with the Day Master
The Day Master is the heavenly stem of the day pillar. Each other stem is compared with it: the same element, an element it produces, an element it controls, an element that controls it, or an element that produces it. Polarity divides these five relationships into ten categories. English names vary between schools; for example, Rob Wealth may be called Robber Wealth, and Seven Killings may be called Seven Stars.
The five relationship groups
| Group | Two categories | A reflective starting point |
|---|---|---|
| Companion | Friend · Rob Wealth | Peers, independence, cooperation and competition. Try balancing self-reliance with clear shared responsibilities. |
| Output | Eating God · Hurting Officer | Expression, making things and questioning established approaches. Try giving a creative idea a concrete form before defending it. |
| Wealth | Direct Wealth · Indirect Wealth | Resources, practical priorities and opportunities. Compare an appealing possibility with the time and resources it really needs. |
| Power | Direct Officer · Seven Killings | Structure, responsibility and responses to pressure. Separate useful commitments from expectations you have not chosen. |
| Resource | Direct Resource · Indirect Resource | Learning, support and ways of understanding. Test one insight in practice rather than collecting endless explanations. |
What a personal Ten Gods reading means here
The calculator counts visible stems and the hidden stems in each branch. Each visible stem contributes six units, and a branch's six units are divided equally between its hidden stems. The visible Day Master is excluded from the Ten Gods total, leaving 42 units. A percentage is the share of those units, not a score of personal worth.
Your reading compares the largest categories, keeps tied themes, and considers relationship groups and combinations. If a category is absent from this weighting, that does not mean you lack the corresponding ability in daily life. A high share does not automatically mean “good,” and the names “Hurting Officer” or “Rob Wealth” do not predict misconduct.
How to use the interpretation
- Check the clock time and birth offset before reading themes.
- Read your personal result before opening the general reference.
- Look for a concrete recent example that supports or contradicts a theme.
- Choose one small action to try, rather than making a major decision from the label.
This is a simplified cultural reading. It does not judge chart strength, favorable elements or luck cycles, and it cannot establish your future, health, career or relationships.
